The MiniTec aluminium profile system is most commonly associated with structures for machine building such as conveyors, machine guarding and handling systems, as well as assembly and manufacturing shop equipment. However, an unusual application for Magnetic Shields Ltd demonstrates the system's extreme versatility.

Versatile profile system used for magnetic shield test roomMiniTec UK Ltd recently secured a contract with Magnetic Shields Ltd to design and build a low-frequency magnetically shielded room for test purposes.

MiniTec and Magnetic Shields worked together to design and manufacture a 3x3x2m high shielded room for the University of Vienna, where it will be used for conducting research into the properties of magnetic fields and their influence on the working environment.

The MiniTec aluminium profile system was selected because of its robustness compared with other systems available and the simplicity of installation, coupled with the comprehensive range of accessories available.

Once the framework was complete it was clad with Mumetal, a highly permeable material that serves to absorb the magnetic field and redirect it away from the interior of the room. The drastically reduced magnetic field inside the room enables experiments to be carried out without unwanted magnetic interference.

With the MiniTec aluminium profile system it is easy to design to a specific requirement, and the proprietary locking mechanism requires just a standard Allen key to tighten the joints. As a result, structures are easy to assemble and, should the need arise, equally easy to adjust; alternatively, the entire structure can be dismantled and the components reused in a different configuration.
