SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2006 is expanding its position as the leading and most important special interest exhibition of Europe for manufacturers and users of electric automation, with new record figures. At SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2006, 28 – 30 November in Nuremberg, some 1,200 companies (2005: 1,160) from 31 countries will present themselves.

The increase is also vested in the request of numerous exhibitors, to be able to inform visitors more intensively about products and solutions. In order to do this, they increase their stand areas. Some 76,000 sqm exhibition area have currently been booked (2005: 73,000 sqm). This makes the exhibition larger and more extensive than ever.

Some 200 companies (2005: 192) without representation in Germany will exhibit at SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2006 in November. These companies represent ca. 17 % of the total number of exhibitors. With 34 companies, Italy is the strongest represented country, followed by Switzerland and Austria.

Eight exhibition halls will be occupied by the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2006. The halls are interconnected and allow visitors a comfortable walkabout across the entire exhibition ground. A guiding system, arranged according to topics, is presented to visitors. The following themes were assigned to the exhibition halls:

Hall 1 and 4:Electric Drives / Motion Control
Hall 5:Mechanical Systems and Periphery
Hall 6 and 7:Control Technology and Sensors
Hall 7A:Software and Sensors
Hall 8:Control Technology and Interface Technology
Hall 9:Control Technology and Interface Technology

The organisers offer a new information system to trade visitors, allowing them to intensively prepare themselves, even before their exhibition visit. Exhibitors, time schedules and products can easily be found in the Personal Exhibition Planner on www.mesago.com/sps. Individual companies and their events can be compiled into an individual exhibition planning. Products and novelties can be found online before the visit to the exhibition.

Key Topics 2006

Three key topics are at the centre of SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2006: "Ethernet in Automation", "Safety and Security in Automation" and "Motion Control". These topics are being highlighted in order to allow them to come into their own right because of their importance and topicality for the entire electric automation. Extensive information on the key topics will be available at the exhibition and the conference. Panel discussions will be held on the exhibition forums, regarding essential aspects of the key topics.

Special Presentation: Applied Automation

The VDMA presents solutions for the automation of manufacturing facilities, within the framework of the special presentation "Applied Automation", in Hall 6. Numerous presentations by users demonstrate how manufacturing products and systems can be applied to the advantage of the customer. Examples from various sectors are given, including the packaging industry, logistics and handling technology.

Exhibition Forums

Exhibition forums with panel discussions on current topics, as well as presentations of products by exhibitors, form an important and interesting source of information for the visitor. In both forums in Hall 1 and Hall 8, a total of 15 panel discussions by specialist publishers and associations will take place. The forum in Hall 8 is under special direction of the ZVEI - Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V., the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association. Topics like life cycle costs of electric drives, wireless, innovative sensor technology, image processing, security and web technology will be dealt with here.
