Papers can be submitted for this year's SPS/IPC/DRIVES conference in Nuremberg (27–29 November) until 7 May.

SPS/IPC/DRIVES conference lectures and tutorials provide an ideal platform on which to discuss new technologies and innovative applications. A committee of experts is in charge of evaluating the submissions and the new chairman is Dr. Alexander Verl from Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) in Stuttgart. Along with Dr. Klaus Bender of TU Munich, he is responsible for the automation part of the conference, while Dr. Walter Schumacher of TU Braunschweig is responsible for Drives.

With the Call for Papers 2007 the committee chairmen prepared the ground for a high-quality conference program. They also focus on the exchange of experiences about topics common to both conference parts AUTOMATION and DRIVES to allow for the ever growing connection of embedded software with classic automation components. Of course specific questions relevant for the conference parts AUTOMATION or DRIVES are still a basic part of the Call for Papers.

Contributions for Automation conference are sought covering:

  • Ethernet applications in automation
  • Evidence of open Ethernet protocols conformity
  • Security strategies for production systems
  • Safety solutions in components and networks
  • Wireless communication within the industrial environment
  • Sensor/actuator interfaces and system integration
  • Engineering tools for networked systems
  • Real-time simulation for start-up support, system diagnostics and control system optimisation

For Drives:

  • Motion Control Systems: Modeling
  • Simulation and Code Generation
  • Control of Electrical Drives
  • Direct Drives
  • Small Drives and Actuators
  • Converter Technology, EMC and Line Interference, Standardisation
  • Drives Integrated Safety
  • Applications of Drives in Production Plants
  • Simulation-supported integration of drives machine start-up

This year, the topic common to both Automation and Drives focuses on "Embedded Software in Automation und Drives" and includes methods and technologies to be implemented during the complete product life cycle.

Contributions can be made on the following themes:

  • Process models in equipment software development
  • Development environments and tool support
  • New architectural concepts and reutilisation
  • Applications of FPGA versus software
  • Experience with embedded real-time operation systems
  • Integration of protocol stacks in equipment software
  • X-in-the-Loop test methods for equipment software
  • Test case generation and test automation

The most important target groups of the SPS/IPC/DRIVES conference include senior level staff working within development and product line management in the supply and user industry and scientists working in applied research. For them the conference offers a dialog between the fields of research, development of products and application.
