Zettlex Printed Technologies (www.zettlex.com) is a first-time exhibitor and will be showing a new non-contacting technology for precision position sensing. This innovative RF technology provides reliable and accurate position measurement even in harsh environments, including long-term submersion and temperatures to 200degC. The company produces linear, rotary, curvilinear, 2D and 3D sensors for consumer, industrial, defence, aerospace and medical markets. The show will see the launch of the company's new range of RF motor encoders as well as Lintran linear transducers. Lintran is aimed at offering a cost-effective alternative to LVDTs and magnetostrictive systems from 1-2700mm travel.
KTR Couplings (www.ktr.com) is a leading supplier in the couplings and hydraulic components market. The company will be displaying a range of drive couplings that include the torsionally flexible Rotex couplings, along with the backlash-free variation of the Rotex GS. The Bowex gear tooth coupling will be on show with some of its diesel engine derivatives. The steel lamina couplings Rigiflex and Radex will be displayed, along with a range of hydraulic components. A new drive family will also be making its European debut; key features of the yet-to-be revealed range are IP20 and IP54 ratings and a power range of 1.1kW to 132kW. Unidrive SP high-performance drives will also be highlighted, with large freestanding cubicle drives, modular input and output power units, plus panel-mounted drives. New product developments include the launch of a real-time Ethernet module; SM-EtherCAT is for use with Control Techniques' full range of AC and servo drives from 0.37kW for simple conveyor or pump control, through high-precision servo applications to high-power 1.9MW multi-mode drives. CT says it will also be displaying the world's most powerful easy drive - the Commander SK, which is available from 0.25kW up to 132kW.
Emotive Control Systems Ltd (www.emotivecontrolsystems.co.uk) is the UK distributor for Heinzmann disc motors and wheel hub motors. Heinzmann disc motors distinguish themselves by their compact design, low inertia and high performance. Two main types are available, DC and brushless. The DC variants range from 26W, 8Ncm to 1.1kW, 3.5Nm, while the brushless motors range from 200W, 1.6Nm to 4.5kW, 14.4Nm, with maximum stall torque around four times this value. Danfoss Motion Controls (www.danfoss.com/drives) will be exhibiting its new super-compact High Power drives, with their 1.2MW frame size. The efficiency of this range, better than 98 per cent, results in vastly reduced heat losses and substantial energy savings. IP54 enclosures are available as standard, along with the more common IP00 and IP21 enclosures. The range is designed for compact 'zero side clearance' mounting and front access only for ease of installation and servicing. Also on display will be other examples from the company's diverse product range (available from 0.18kW to 1.2MW) and the latest exciting product development, the Aqua Drive.
Dunkermotoren UK (www.dunkermotoren.com) will be highlighting how basic components can be used to customised systems. Consistent integration of diverse electronics with various communication interfaces makes the company a technology leader for drive systems up to 500W output. A wide spectrum of gearboxes of Dunkermotoren's own design and production enable required torque and speed requirements to be met. Further components - like encoders and brakes - round off this modular system. Dunkermotoren will show DC brushed and brushless motors, as well as single-phase and three-phase AC motors. Ideas in Automation (www.iialtd.com) will be showing the Vipa range of PLC and HMIs, including the fast Speed7 CPUs, all programmed with STEP7 from Siemens, as well as touchscreens from 6 to 10inch. Remote Profibus, DeviceNet, CANbus I/O systems and the EasyConn Profibus plug with Diagnostic LEDs will also be shown. A new V8 range will be on show, with up to eight-way communications. Touchscreens from 5.7 to 15.0inch will be connected to PLCs and Drives. Ideas in Automation is the sole UK distributor for MB Connectline modems, which feature multiport communications to connect a PLC, drive or HMI for remote access. Commander SK AC drives will also be shown; these benefit from a compact footprint and extra features that can eliminate the requirement for additional components such as EMC filters. They also connect to Profibus and DeviceNet networks.
Centa Transmissions (www.centa.info) will be exhibiting its range of precision positioning and power transmissions drives. The range features standard gears, gearboxes and precision drives for motion control, plus a multitude of other applications as diverse as machine tools, food manufacturing, robotics, oil and gas exploration, materials handling, cranes and satellite technology. Additionally, Centa's expertise extends to the design, construction and installation of bespoke gears for any application. All requirements are carefully evaluated, taking into account such things as torque, inertia, speed, reduction ratio, operational duty times, shock and peak loading conditions, dimensional limitations and any backlash constraints, in order to determine the most suitable drive system, consistent with meeting the customer's operational specification and price objectives. Bonfiglioli UK Ltd IS (Industrial Solutions) (www.bonfiglioliuk.co.uk) will be exhibiting a broad cross-section of its mechatronic product range. The A series helical bevel range has been extended to give customers more choice to match requirements with efficiency and economy. The HDP heavy-duty range of parallel shaft gearbox units has also been extended and will feature at the show. Yet another recently extended range is the 300 series planetary gearboxes that are available on short delivery up to 130,000Nm. Bonfiglioli UK Ltd MS (Mobile Solutions) (www.bonfiglioliuk.co.uk) will be exhibiting the model 304, a new size multipurpose gearbox complete with hydraulic motor. In addition, the 700TK swing drive planetary gearbox and 700CK track drive planetary gearbox, both of which are supplied with an integral Kayaba piston motor, will also be featured on the stand. The full capability of drives, including the 300 series multipurpose, 500 series mixer drives, 600 series wheel drives, 700 series swing and track drives and 800 series winch drives, will also be demonstrated.
Cross & Morse (www.cross-morse.co.uk) will be displaying its standard product range, which includes roller chain and sprockets in both stainless and carbon steel, gears, couplings, torque limiters, sprag clutches, timing pulleys and belts, inverted tooth chain drives, Sealmaster bearings, shaft clamping elements, freewheel and overload clutches, conveyor sprockets and bevel gears. The company also has an extensive manufacturing capability, particularly in the field of special and adapted standard products, to suit customer requirements. Eldon Electric's (www.eldon.com/uk) new RAL 7035 colour will be taking centre stage on the Eldon Enclosures stand. All Eldon's wall-mounting and floorstanding industrial and ICT (information, computer and telecommunications) ranges of mild steel, stainless steel and polyester enclosures will also be highlighted. Alongside the colour change, Eldon has been busy releasing a whole host of new products and accessories, the most keenly anticipated of which is the new STB range of mild steel terminal boxes that replaces the previous IL series. The STB is available in 21 standard sizes from 150x150x80 to 400x800x120mm (IP66) and is one of the first products to come off the production line in Eldon's new purpose-built factory in Romania. Eldon is also using the opportunity to demonstrate how easy it is to use its new website. Launched in February 2008, the new-look website is described as better, faster and easier to use than ever before.
Fortress Interlocks (www.fortressinterlocks.com) will be showing its three product ranges: mGard, amGard and eGard. mGard is the 'premier range of modular robust trapped key interlocks' for heavy-duty applications. Hitachi (Silverteam) (www.silverteam.co.uk) and Softstart UK (www.softstartuk.com) say they will be showing a number of UK 'firsts' at this year's Drives & Controls show. Among the line-up are Hitachi's SJ700 series inverters, incorporating patented new switching technology to reduce DvDt and with in-built PLC functionality as standard. These drives are now available with high-power range ratings to 400kW. The EH-V CPU for the EH150 series PLC is said to be 'probably the fastest PLC available in the market', and the X200 low-cost inverter range benefits from a number of high end features. Softstart UK will be showing - possibly for the first time in the UK - a 2MW, 6.6kV soft starter part from its range up to 20MW; also on display will be the new RVS-DX series, extending from 4kW to 630kW, with built in bypass contactor; this is said to be one of the smartest low-voltage digital soft starters on the market.
Mayr Transmissions (www.mayr.co.uk) will be exhibiting its range of torque limiting clutches, electromagnetic safety brakes and precision shaft couplings. The company's products are found across the globe in applications ranging from wind farms to nuclear power plants and theatres to machine tools. In fact wherever a rotary drive system exists, Mayr says there is a good chance it can offer a product to couple, brake or monitor the torque of the rotating elements.
HMK Technical Services (www.hmkdirect.com) is joining forces with Siemens to showcase the latest in motion control and industrial automation, namely a new single-phase servo drive that completes the Sinamics S120 servo family, plus options for both standalone motion functions and possibilities to link over DriveCliq to Simotion controllers. From Parker Electrical, HMK will be showcasing new drives and control operating over EPL (Ethernet Power Link), which are useful for small integrated projects. From Parker Mechanical, HMK will demonstrate the LCB economy belt actuator, which brings motion actuation into a new price bracket, and the PowerRod linear motors that bring linear motor technology within the range of general production machines. From Neugart, HMK will show the PLV deep flange mounted gearboxes for applications requiring through-plate mounting. These gearboxes are claimed to offer direct swap alternatives to Alpha, ZF and Vogel product ranges. From Atlanta, HMK will be highlighting the new B series economy servo worm gearboxes with 12minarc backlash, together with a large range of servo screw jack actuators.
For over forty years Furnace Controls (www.furness-controls.com) has been a market leader in the measurement of ultra-low pressures. Innovative development has produced a range of leak detectors used in today's fast production environments, gas flow meters for any flow range starting at 0.1cc/min, intrinsically safe transmitters for process control, and differential instruments that can measure less than 0.1Pa with a background pressure of 10bar. KB Electronics (www.kbelectronics.com) will be exhibiting the KBDA adjustable frequency drive, which is housed in a rugged IP65 rated die-cast aluminium enclosure and is available for 115/230V single-phase input for operating three-phase 230V motors. Other models are available for 230/380/480V three-phase input for motors rated up to 4kW. The sine wave coded pulse width modulated (PWM) output operates at a frequency up to 16kHz, providing high motor torque, efficiency and low noise. The drive is set to specific applications via a multi-function keypad. The four-digit LED display provides a readout of the drive operating parameters and programming functions, as well as displaying output frequency, motor speed (in rpm), output current, output voltage, bus voltage, function codes, and values, fault codes and custom units. The LEDs provide an indication of the drive's status and operating mode (Hz, PGM, LCL/REM, STOP, FWD, REV, OL and JOG/REM). All models are UL Listed for Canada and US, CE approved with the RFI/EMI filter installed and RoHS-compliant.
Kenworth Products (www.kenworthproducts.co.uk), together with its sister company Universal Motors, will be showing examples from its comprehensive range of three-phase and single-phase motors, both standard and special types, from long-established producer EMG of Vicenza, Italy. Also highlighted will be examples of ATEX-approved explosion-proof motors, including a 'new to the UK' range from a European manufacturer. FFD motors from Austria will display its progressive output three-phase motors and Electromotor Ltd will have examples of its easily adaptable three-phase motors. Stocks are kept at locations in Huddersfield and Ipswich, which now hold increased stocks of six- and eight-pole motors. A recent tie up with a substantial European manufacturer and distributor now enables Kenworth to offer large MV motors and slip ring types, plus all types of two-speed motors at competitive prices and on competitive lead times.
Lamonde Automation (www.lamondeautomation.co.uk) will be focusing on drives, HMI panels and PLCs. Motion products from Automation Direct include inverters, servos and stepper motors. The HMIs include Automation Direct's high-performance C-more family (6 to 15inch colour TFT displays and lower-cost monochrome and STN colour displays), plus Weintek's competitively priced EasyView products with 4.3 to 12.1inch TFT displays - suitable for OEM applications. PLCs include Automation Direct's Direct Logic family and the CTI-2500 family from Control Technology (Siemens Simatic TI505-compatible products). Exhibited for the first time will be Weintek's MT-505 4.3inch TFT HMI and the MT-8000 family (5.6, 8, 10.4 and 12.1inch colour TFT displays, up to three PLC serial connections plus a data or PLC connection via Ethernet). A full CTI-2500 PLC system will also be demonstrated with the new CPUs that were launched in 2007.
As well as its recently introduced stainless steel range, Linak UK Ltd (www.linak.co.uk) will be showcasing the all-new LA35 actuator. A midsized electric linear actuator, and smaller sister to the highly rated LA36, it has been developed to operate in extremely harsh conditions carrying a high IP66/IP69k static rating, meaning that it can be washed down using high-pressure jet washers, and a working temperature range of -10 to +50degC. The robust design is further enhanced by a heavy-duty aluminium housing and advanced shaft sealing. Precise control is facilitated by the use of in-built limit switches and by advanced feedback options, either analogue or absolute feedback, both of which are non-contact to ensure long life. Optional advanced feedback systems and stainless steel options are also available. The LA35 features exchangeable cables and is available in 12V or 24V developing a thrust of 600N over a stroke length of 600mm.
Represented in the UK by CRD Devices Limited (www.linearactuator.co.uk), MecVel Srl (www.mecvel.com) is an Italian manufacturing company in Bologna that has produced a range of linear motion mechanical components for over 20 years. Seifert mtm Systems (www.seifertmtmsystems.de) is an established global thermal management systems company that designs and manufacture heat exchangers, air conditioners, fan trays, controllers and thermoelectric products for the industrial, medical, military, telecom and electronic industries. The company has a standard product line and also a well established and well known capability to co-develop modified and/or custom designs to meet special application requirements. Seifert began as a manufacturer of thermal cooling systems in 1965 and says it pioneered the development of air conditioners for control enclosures for industrial/machine control applications. S G Transmission (www.stephensongobin.com), which is part of the Stephenson Gobin Group, has introduced two new ranges to its product portfolio: the Ogura range of hysteresis and magnetic particle clutches and brakes, and the Gummi range of flexible couplings. The benefits of Ogura hysteresis and magnetic particle units are that they are suitable for use in 'slipping' applications without the usual concerns for wear and heat caused by friction. The applications for these include bottle capping machinery, torque testing machinery (for motors or drives), winding or rolling machinery, general machine tool applications, tensioning control, rotor balancing, creep drives, amusement machinery and power generators. Visitors can see the latest technologies in AC servo, BLDC and stepper designs. Furthermore, Berger Lahr will be showing its range of integrated motors, with the addition of what it claims to be another 'market first', namely integrated Ethernet fieldbus connectivity. The new multi-axis motion controllers will be demonstrating high-speed Soft Motion, and pre-written machine functions enhancing the engineered motion systems.
Ilme UK (www.ilmeuk.co.uk) will be exhibiting heavy-duty connectors, including a new range that are said to reduce labour times. Ilme has a very strong focus on service to the UK market and in January 2007 moved to a new purpose-built factory on Merseyside to provide an improved service and long-term commitment to the UK by increasing stockholdings locally. Ilme manufactures its product in Italy, all of which are designed and developed to the latest national and international standards. Drives and Controls 2008 will be a window to launch the next generation of connectors to the market.

WEG Electric Motors UK (www.weg.com.br) will be unveiling a range of new energy-efficient motors that aim to be the most trustworthy motors on the market. With reduced noise and vibration outputs, the motors are engineered to have very low operating costs and require minimal maintenance. Also on display will be the new permanent magnet drive system that incorporates WEG's new permanent magnet motor and the CFW09 inverter as the controlling element, giving a far superior efficiency than the standard squirrel cage motor. A full range of hazardous area motors for use in potential explosive atmospheres will be exhibited with energy efficiency being a feature of the range. WEG will be showing one of the most versatile drives on the market, the CFW11, which incorporates WEG's plug-and-play technology that is automatically configured, enabling the inverter to suit the widest range of drive applications.
Gefran UK (www.gefran.co.uk) will showcase its new SieiDrive ADV200 AC inverter family with FOC (field oriented control). Aimed at system builders and OEMs, the next-generation range covers power ratings from 0.75kW to 1.5MW and can be configured for open-loop or closed-loop speed feedback as well as flux vector or V/f control. The modular design allows up to three option cards to be freely mixed together for complete application flexibility. A wide choice of fieldbus options is available, plus Gefran's own GD-Net fast Ethernet. Programming is via a choice of keypad, Gefran's GFeXpress configuration tool or with Gefran's IEC61131-3 MDPLC software. Gefran will also profile its GF_VEDO high-performance industrial computers and operator panels for control and display, highlighting the range as a single tool for HMI and PLC. The extensive range covers screen sizes from 3.5 to 15inch with touchscreens, with optional support for IEC 61131-3.
Leroy Somer (www.leroy-somer.co.uk) will be launching the new Dyneo range of high-efficiency, compact synchronous permanent magnet motors and drives. LSRPM motors are available from 0.25-550kW in IEC frame sizes from 90 to 315, with IP55 protection. These motors benefit from reduced frame size (power-for-power) when compared to standard induction motors. Specifically targeted to suit variable speed applications where high performance and efficiency (better than EFF1) is required over a wide speed range.

Piezo-electric sensors for dynamic measurements or strain gauge-based sensors for more general-purpose load or pressure monitoring are available. Torque transducers are available for both static and rotary measurements, and a range of wireless systems and orientation sensors are said to offer new solutions to old problems.

Lafert Electric Motors (www.lafert.com) will be exhibiting its new high-performance motor, together with a selection of single- and three-phase machines, including brake motors, ATEX-approved DIP dust-proof motors and examples of custom-engineered machines. Lafert's high-performance motor is based upon a combination of both permanent-magnet and standard AC induction motor technologies. It offers substantial efficiency advantages over conventional AC induction motors, including EFF1 and even premium efficiency machines, resulting in energy cost savings of up to 80 per cent, size reductions of around 45 per cent, plus consequent weight savings. Lafert specialises in engineered motors to meet industry-specific requirements - as is needed for the woodworking, marine and railway industries - and application demands such as special shafts/housings. The company has 20,000 shaft and flange options on its database, plus many non-standard winding configurations. A special emphasis will be on the company's brake motor range, which has seen a 50 per cent growth in just 5 years.

Visitors can see the latest in intelligent motor starting and protection in TeSys U and TeSys T, HMIs, control and signalling devices and the new M340 micro PLC.
Oriental Motor UK (www.oriental-motor.co.uk) offers a range of over 7000 standard products designed to meet worldwide operating standards and major safety standards such as UL, CSA, EN and CE. The company has also embarked on a programme to upgrade all existing products to RoHS-compliant.
