The team at the Profibus International Competence Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University excels at supporting Profibus and related technologies. For example, with the aid of the UK AS-i Users Group the team has developed a manufacturer-independent Certified Course on Actuator Sensor Interface Technology (AS-i), which is a technology that is often used in conjunction with Profibus. This two-day course teaches the theory and latest practice of the Actuator Sensor Interface. The next course takes place on 11-12 June 2008.

Using a hands-on, practical approach, students learn how to use AS-i intelligent sensors, actuators and remote I/O in the most efficient and effective way and see how to integrate AS-i into higher fieldbus systems. They build, configure and exercise their own AS-interface system from scratch. The course covers the latest V3.0 specification and techniques for interfacing AS-i networks to higher fieldbus networks such as Profibus and Industrial Ethernet.

The course also includes an overview of the AS-i Safety at Work (ASiSafe) profile. Successful graduates will receive a Certified AS-i Engineer certificate.

Course outline
