igus speedifit service delivers complete sub-assembliesigus UK is launching speedifit, a new cost-effective manufacturing service to supply complete bearing assemblies to customers' specifications, enabling those customers to save time and money. igus takes responsibility for sourcing the bearing housing - which might be cast and/or machined to the customer's drawing - then installs the required igus iglidur plain bearing and supplies the finished sub-assembly ready to fit. If appropriate, igus will discuss the design with the customer to see if minor design changes could result in additional cost savings.

Any igus bearing can be fitted into a housing manufactured from a broad choice of materials including aluminium, anodised aluminium, mild steel, stainless steel, titanium or engineering plastics. Alternatively, customers can free-issue the bearing housing for igus to install the bearing and return the completed sub-assembly.

Great care has been taken to make the speedifit service is easy to use: the customer emails igus the assembly and housing drawings directly to , and receives a quote typically within 24 hours. Once the order has been placed, the speedifit manufacturing and assembly centre produces the custom part and the complete assembly is delivered, ready to install, within the confirmed lead-time.

Save time, save money

Delivery timescales depends on the material, complexity and quantity, but speedifit parts are usually delivered within 5-10 working days; every speedifit quotation includes a firm maximum lead-time. The delivery of the speedifit part saves customers valuable manufacturing and logistics time, and the delivered one-piece assembly does not need any further processing or work.

igus iglidur plastic bearings are reliable, high-quality, wear-resistant and free from lubrication, so they need no maintenance and offer a long service life.

As with all igus components, there is no minimum order, and customers can order any number of parts.

The cost of the speedifit part depends on the individual requirements and materials, but customers can also benefit from cost savings associated with reduced manufacturing and logistics time.

Matthew Aldridge, director at igus, states: "We are excited to be launching this new service, which expands our custom manufacturing offering. Manufacturers are increasingly looking for bespoke parts but at a more cost-effective price and at igus we give customers this flexibility. speedifit components are made completely to our customers' specifications and we also work closely with them to make significant cost savings by, for example, changing a machined stainless steel bearing housing to a casting, and supplying this as a speedifit assembly."

Whether it is a concept or prototype, or the need is for low-volume or high-volume parts, igus has a full service offering, with its speedigus range of manufacturing services. The speedigus offering includes speedimold, a rapid prototyping and injection moulding service (previously referred to as speedigus), speedicut, a rapid machining service, and now speedifit, making it as easy as possible for customers to realise cost-effective custom sub-assemblies.
