Atlas Copco is the only compressor manufacturer to have received ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems certification from Lloyds Register for its production facility in Antwerp, Belgium, which manufactures state-of-the-art oil-free air compressors, blowers and air treatment products.
In today’s world, food manufacturers are becoming increasingly stringent about the importance of food quality, making compliance with food safety regulations and standards essential. ISO 22000 specifies the requirements for a food safety management system where an organisation in the food chain needs to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure that food is safe at the time of human consumption.
Compressed air is a safe and reliable power source, commonly referred to as the ‘fourth utility’ alongside electricity, water and gas. It is widely used throughout the food and beverage industry and regularly comes into contact with end products in many applications. For this reason, and because 90 per cent of food processing companies use compressed air in some form, Atlas Copco decided to work towards this valuable certification; which is a mandatory requirement for any company involved in the food chain.
Dirk Ville, General Manager of Atlas Copco Compressors UK, says: “This certification gives our customers in the food and beverage industry extra confidence and peace of mind that they are working with a supplier who conforms to the latest international standards. By achieving ISO22000 certification Atlas Copco is setting a benchmark for good practice in the compressed air industry, which provides our customers with assurances about quality, safety and reliability.”
As a result of achieving this auditable ISO standard, which sets clear food safety management requirements, food and beverage companies in the UK can rely upon Atlas Copco as a compliant manufacturer of oil-free compressed air equipment used to support their processes and production applications.
