Procter Machine Guarding is promoting its extensive collection of free machine safety downloads. These useful resources have all been created to make life easier for machine builders, production engineers, health and safety managers and anyone who has responsibility for or who needs an understanding of machinery safety – and guarding in particular.
New downloads are added to the portfolio from time to time, but currently it includes the following:
- Two spreadsheet-based calculators
- Four White Papers
- Extensive Guide to Machinery Guarding Standards
- Guide to Workshop Safety
- Guide to the New Machinery Directive
- Machine Accident Investigation Kit
Both the Risk Assessment Calculator and the Safety Distance Calculator have proved extremely popular and, for those who are unsure whether these meet their needs, Procter Machine Guarding has produced 'walkthrough' videos to demonstrate how easy they are to use. People who have downloaded these previously are encouraged to download the latest versions to ensure they are using the most up-to-date iterations.
A recent addition to the Downloads section of the website is a White Paper that details the changes in the 2014 edition of PD 5304. Although this Published Document from BSI does not have the same legal status as a British Standard, it contains a wealth of information that is helpful for people responsible for existing machinery, as well as those designing new machines.
Another important White Paper that was published at the end of 2014 details the differences between EN 953 (the current machine guarding standard) and the International Standard that is about to replace it, namely ISO 14120.
The two other White Papers that can be downloaded for free discuss the often misunderstood issues of Fixings for Fixed Guards and CE Marking of Machine Guards.
Copies of the above useful resources are available free of charge from the machine safety downloads section of the Procter Machine Guarding website.
