Dawson Shanahan invests in training the next generationDawson Shanahan is yet again placing a priority on training the next generation of engineers by taking a stand at the Big Bang Fair North Wales this March. The event, organised by the Engineering Education Scheme Wales (EESW), will be held on Tuesday 13 March 2018 at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, and is one of the largest events in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Dawson Shanahan’s decision to attend the event is part of the company’s wider commitment to investing in young people, via apprenticeships, to build up a skilled workforce for the future.

For those thinking of attending the event, the EESW will also be showcasing the work of 25 EESW teams from across North Wales, completed during the EESW Sixth Form Project in 2017–2018. A Welshpool High School team will be among those attending and Dawson Shanahan’s team of engineers have been helping them with their project entry. With over 800 people expected to attend the event, including students from secondary and primary schools, teachers, Welsh Assembly Ministers, engineers and managing directors from local and national companies, this is a key event for those interested in a career in engineering.

Ken Toop, Senior Process Development Engineer at Dawson Shanahan and responsible for apprentice training, comments: “Here at Dawson Shanahan, we truly believe that training the next generation is critical to shrinking the engineering skills gap. Through our paid apprenticeship programme, we give young people the skills, knowledge and experience needed to accelerate their career in today’s fast-moving world of engineering. Learning while earning brings a wealth of exciting new opportunities across a wide range of engineering disciplines and events such as Big Bang North Wales are fantastic opportunities for young people to see the highly rewarding future a career in engineering can give them.”
