One of the items in this month's Editor's Choice is an energy-efficient piston air motor. According to Altra Industrial Motion, an automobile plant has reduced its power consumption by 152kVA per annum by changing from vane motors to piston air motors. This energy saving, together with reduced expenditure on plant renewals, is worth in the region of EUR115,000 per annum. Another story in this newsletter relates to environmental test chambers that use up to 68 per cent less energy.

Depending on the application, upgrading components to energy-efficient alternatives can give a rapid return in investment. Similarly, implementing energy-efficient measures on new equipment can make a substantial difference to the cost of ownership.

Damte, which publishes MachineBuilding.net, this month launched a new website dedicated to the efficient use of energy. EfficientEnergy.net has a wider scope than MachineBuilding.net, as it covers the industrial, commercial and public sectors. Take a look at the new site now at www.efficientenergy.net.
