The IoT Gateway is a system of coordinated hardware and software components which networks new and existing machines cost efficiently – optimising production processes and product quality. It also provides a fast and flexible connection of machines to Industry 4.0.
Bosch Rexroth’s IoT Gateway makes it easier to connect to the Internet of Things (IoT) without intervening in the automation logic. It works by collecting sensor and process data, transmitting it to MES, cloud applications or local monitoring systems, where this data can be analysed.
The IoT Gateway can be used to:
- Increase machine availability
- Enhance process quality
- Save energy
- Optimise product quality
Huge time and cost savings can be achieved as the system is web based and completely free from programming, helping to ease configuration. Its modular design is based on Linux, Java apps and open interfaces which helps to make machine and process data transparent.
Scalable, embedded control hardware can be used alongside three apps that make data recording, processing and forwarding easy, this includes:
- Dashboard App (The Central Hub): for system administration, configuration, parameterisation and visualisation of process data
- Devices App: establishes connections with peripherals such as sensors, and signal values are converted into process data
- Processing App: for processing and forwarding of process data
