To further support end users in the hygienic sector, Optimas’ Components Division has recently introduced the HD Hygienic Cable Gland to its UK range, which offers the required specialisation to effectively seal cables in this environment.

Hygienic applications are some of the most demanding areas that a component can be utilised in. Cleanrooms, chemical facilities, food or beverage manufacturing lines and medical centres in this sector are subjected to rigorous wash downs and stringent regulation – so specifying an inferior component is simply not an option.

Designed to provide simple cable entry and high cable retention for panel and enclosure installation, the Hummel Hygienic HD Cable Gland offers a wide range of specialised features that make it an optimum selection for hygienic applications. Constructed from 316L Stainless Steel with a Silicone hygienic seal – the gland displays excellent corrosion resistance. This allows the component to withstand virtually any wash down procedure, regardless of frequency. In fact, the gland itself is rated to IP69K, ensuring ingress protection during high pressure water wash downs at 80degC. As a result, service life is exponentially increased.

Another concern for components in hygienic environments is ease of cleaning. A smooth and efficient design is key for preventing contaminants from sticking to a component, which is why the low-profile Hummel Hygienic HD Cable Gland has been designed to achieve a surface roughness of less than 0.8μm. As a result, the component can be easily cleaned as part of an existing sterilisation policy.

The Hummel Hygienic HD Cable Gland can house cables with diameters ranging from 5.0 to 21.0mm depending on specification. With an operating temperature ranging from -40degC to 120degC, the component offers the versatility and durability required to support most hygienic applications. Easily mounted, the Hummel Hygienic HD Gland offers speedy installation, causing minimal disturbance to existing installations.

These characteristics ensure that the Hummel Hygienic HD Cable Gland is suitable for applications such as food preparation, pharmaceutical manufacture, chemical production, biotechnology and cleanrooms. To further reinforce this, the gland is approved to both Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) Conforming Materials standards.
