Compact photoelectric sensor features narrow beam

Idec is expanding its SA1E photoelectric sensor range. Its new convergent type provides a more focused beam than the standard diffuse sensor. For this, the object must reside in a well-defined area of 5-35mm in front of the sensor. Backgrounds are ignored and neither colour nor material has much effect. As the convergent type does not employ a moving adjustable lens, it is cheaper than a background suppression sensor, but it can still be used to perform this function thanks to its tight-focused beam.

The SA1E would be particularly useful in the detection of integrated circuits mounted on printed circuit boards. Its small size complements the tight-focused range and enables it to be mounted very close to production lines.
