Scorpion Vision Software 7.0, which was presented for the first time at Vision 2008 in Stuttgart in November 2008, is now available to download. Powerful and versatile, the software enables users to create 2D and 3D machine vision applications with no need for any programming.
Supplied complete with an extensive and proven toolbox containing more than 150 components and tools, Scorpion Vision makes it straightforward to configure innovative machine vision applications. According to the company, Scorpion Vision Software is "the perfect companion" to Sony Smart cameras, digital cameras with USB, Firewire and GigE interfaces, as well as 3D image sensors. Customers can therefore choose between the small form factor of the Sony SmartCam, or use an alternative camera linked to a standard PC or a powerful industrial PC with Raid and multi-core processing.
Scorpion Vision Software is used in a wide variety of industries: automotive, furniture manufacturing, food and drugs, robotics, packaging, energy, photovoltaic and more. The software solves tasks within robot vision, label and surface inspection, assembly verification, colour identification and gauging.
Compared with other machine vision software packages, Scorpion Vision Software is claimed to offer a large reduction in the development time and maintenance costs. Furthermore, applications can be readily customised thanks to the versatile user interface and Python scripting. The extensive set of configuration tools perform functions including: 2D and 3D Pattern Matching, Template Finding, 3D Measurements, Blob Analysis, Morphology, Metrology, Calibration, Colour Identification, Shape Sorting, OCR and OCV, Bar Code and Data Code Reading, and Polygon Matching with sub-pixel accuracy.
A key feature of the Scorpion Vision Software is its ability to create and use 3D images. Based on the 3D image, Scorpion has tools to locate objects and perform geometrical operations in a framework with true 3D reference systems and 3D visualisation. Moreover, the company claims that the ability to combine 3D reference systems with any 2D image is unbeatable.
Scorpion Vision Software can be used for applications such as automatic robot bin picking and 100 product inspection with 3D measurement techniques. Robust 3D measurement machines can therefore be built cost-effectively using standard components.
