Angle sensor suits arduous high-duty-cycle applicationsVariohm Eurosensor is launching a new 28mm diameter angle sensor, the Euro-X, aimed specifically at arduous high-duty-cycle position feedback applications in areas of motorsports such as sequential gearboxes, throttle and suspension position measurement.

With a factory programmable range from 0-360degrees and a 12-bit positioning resolution, the race-proven Euro-X uses a non-contacting Hall effect and magnet design for durability against shock and vibration. The non-contact design scores favourably over wear-prone potentiometer feedback devices, with the IP67 sensor being virtually maintenance-free. To further suit harsh motorsport environments, the impressive temperature specification covers a working range of -40degC to +125degC with a short-term upper rating of +150degC.

A standard sensor, which has a 5V DC supply and 0.5-4.5V ratiometric output with redundancy as an option, will suit many automotive and motorsport applications, but alternative versions with PWM and SPI outputs are available on request. Independent linearity is +/-0.3 per cent of measurement range with maximum hysteresis and maximum repeatability both specified at 0.1degree.

With two slotted mounting holes for M4 screws on a 38mm PCD the Euro-X non-contacting position sensor is easily installed in space-restricted areas. D-type and slotted shafts are available and electrical connection is via Raychem three-core cable.

Alternative leadwire lengths and connector options are available and Variohm can supply smaller housing versions, still fully suited to motorsports, down to 9mm diameter.
