Solid-state angular rotation sensor for OEM applicationsInertial Aerosystems is introducing a low-cost, high-quality, solid-state angular rotation sensor that is designed primarily for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Designated the Horizon unit, it is manufactured by Systron Donner Inertial.

The new sensor incorporates a one-piece micromachined vibrating quartz tuning fork sensing element that gives exceptional stability and reliability over a wide temperature range, with high resistance to shock and vibration. Operating from a 12V DC power supply at <20mA, and with internal power regulation, it provides a simple output interface with a high level (0 to +/-5V DC) output signal and a 2.5V DC reference to allow for differential monitoring of the output. Standard ranges are + or -90, 100, 200 degrees/s with input voltage of 8-15V DC. The units weigh 60g and measure 25.4 x 50.5 x 25.9mm.

Other features include low drift and fast start-up, while low noise offers higher accuracy and resolution. This innovative product is suitable for applications where space and weight are at a premium; customised units are also available.

Applications include antenna stabilisation systems, GPS augmentation of logistics vehicles and agricultural production, factory automation, medical/orthopaedic and instrumentation.
