Inertial Aerosystems is introducing what is claimed to be the world's first MEMS-based true tactical inertial measurement unit. Designated the SD1500, it is manufactured by Systron Donner Inertial. The exceptional performance of this product is based on a new generation of SDI's proven quartz MEMS inertial sensor technology. The quartz technology enables high-volume production of precisely machined sensor structures combined with the inherent large signal output and thermal stability of quartz materials.
The SD1500 is a compact six-axis IMU incorporating SDI's next-generation quartz gyros, quartz accelerometers and high-speed signal processing. The solid-state quartz sensors and sealed IMU construction provide reliable 25000+ hours MTBF, and a 20-year operating and storage life. Continuous built-in test (BIT), configurable communications protocols, electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection, and flexible input power requirements make this versatile product easy to use in a wide range of higher-order integrated system applications.
Operating temperature range is -55 to 85degC. High-quality components with high-speed advanced signal processing deliver an in-run drift of less than 1 degree per hour. Suitable for use where space and weight are at a premium, it measure 73.6 x 73.6mm and weighs 589g.
The SDI500 has been tested and is rated for rugged military underwing captive carry vibration and full military temperature range operation. It is suitable for tactical aerospace, munitions and platform stabilisation applications. Although primarily designated for the military market, it has many commercial applications as well.
