Single-axis angular rate sensor offers high-performanceInertial Aerosystems is introducing a new high-performance single-axis angular rate sensor designed for demanding commercial applications. Designated the SDG1000, it is manufactured by Systron Donner Inertial (SDI).

The excellent performance of this sensor is based on SDI's proven quartz MEMS sensing element, which is claimed to provide superior bias stability and repeatability; run bias stability is less than 10 degrees per hour and noise is less than 0.1 degree per hour - such performance is described as "unprecedented in a commercial product."

This innovative product has no moving parts and the electronics are self-contained. The SDG1000 has a simple DC input of +/-10 to 16V DC, with an operating temperature of -55 to 85degC. It also benefits form internal temperature sensors.

Suitable for use where space and weight are at a premium, the sensor measures 35.81 x 27.29 x 16.9mm and weighs less than 60g.

Applications include:

  • Primary/secondary standby attitude indicator systems
  • Short-term navigation
  • Attitude and heading reference systems
  • Aircraft flight control
  • Platform stabilisation
  • Precise instrumentation
  • Robotics
  • Autonomous vehicle control
