Pilz Automation Technology is launching the PSENini safe proximity switch that can be actuated by most metallic surfaces. Typical applications for these non-contact safety switches include monitoring the position of robots, long cams and mechanisms with multiple switching positions. They can also be used for counting rotational movements, generating a pulse at a rate of up to 10 counts/second (10Hz). Reaction times are fast, so safety distances on machinery can be minimised.
PSENini switches have safe semiconductor outputs, so they can be used with a broad choice of evaluation devices (safety relays or modular configurable safety controllers, for example). Built-in LEDs aid commissioning and diagnostics, and the IP67 sealing, vibration tolerance and smooth surfaces make the switches suitable for use in harsh environments and machinery used for food, drink and pharmaceutical production. The operating temperature range is -10 to +60degC.
Pilz says the PSENini switches are rated to Performance Level e (PL e) of EN ISO 13849-1, Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3) of EN 62061 (IEC 62061) and Safety Category 4 of EN 954-1. This high level of safety is maintained even if the switches are connected in series with other safety input devices such as the Pilz PSENslock safety gate interlock, PSENsgate guard switches and PSENcode coded safety switches. Each device has two safe outputs and one signal output.
