High-pressure magnetostrictive sensor is rated to 1000barBalluff is claiming to be the first to introduce a high-pressure rod-style transducer with a rated pressure of 1000bar for hydraulic cylinders handling extreme loads.

Micropulse CD transducers ensure that extreme loads are controlled and precisely moved. They are based on the proven magnetostrictive distance measuring technology. With an absolute and non-contact measuring principle, it is suitable for reliable, highly precise and dynamic measurement of the piston position in hydraulic cylinders. The special flange and rod design, as well as the especially stable stainless steel material, guarantee the Micropulse CD transducer for use as a feedback system in demanding applications.

The Micropulse BTL CD transducer, which is independently certified by internationally renowned MPA University in Stuttgart, is available with stroke lengths from 25-2000mm. Able to withstand pressure peaks of 1350bar the transducer outer rod has diameter of 12.7mm, an outer wall thickness of 3.25mm and is manufactured from HP160 stainless steel.

Analogue current and voltage outputs are available, plus digital pulse, SSI, Profibus and CANopen interfaces. Ethernet communication will be available by the end of 2011.

The transducer is also claimed to be the first such system to achieve an EX rating for zone 2, ignition class nA.

The BTL CD has all the advantages of the proven Balluff Micropulse 600bar rated transducers. These transducers are suitable for applications that require high reliability and precision. Suitable for measurement lengths of 25-7500mm, integrable and compact, Micropulse displacement systems are extremely versatile. The non-contact operating principle of the systems ensure a complete absence of wear and a virtually endless service life. The high-precision output signal serves as an absolute signal for the controller in a wide range of different interfaces.

BTL CD sensors are aimed at the construction, offshore and specialist machinery markets (such as forging presses, lifts and hoists).
