Linear motion specialist igus UK augments the motor programme for its drylin leadscrew units and belt drive modules by introducing new and ready-to-install combinations of motor and linear unit for use under water or in a vacuum.
The drylin ZLW toothed belt drive module, with variable stroke length, is suitable for positioning small loads. The ZLW-1040-UW is specially developed for use under water and incorporates a PU toothed belt. igus offers this complete with a 2-phase hybrid underwater stepper motor (NEMA 23) that can be operated at depths of up to 10m and features IP68 protection. Special lacquering protects the motor against corrosion and is guaranteed watertight for up to 1bar; the permissible motor surface temperature ranges from -30 to + 80degC.
In addition to underwater operation, the drive units are suitable for applications that require regular cleaning with water, such as those found in the food and beverage industry. For more hygienic applications, the ZLW toothed belt drive can be replaced with the igus SLW-ESJ-1040 leadscrew linear unit, which is made of stainless steel.
In the semiconductor industry, many processes operate within a vacuum to optimise yield and productivity. To work properly in such conditions and without contaminating the vacuum, the linear units need to be lubricant free, with low abrasion and corrosion free. In these conditions, igus recommends the leadscrew-driven stainless steel linear drive module (for example SLW-ESX-1040) with the NEMA 23 motor, which is suitable for vacuums up to 10-3mbar. This stepper motor is also resistant against radiation up to 10J/kg, and its housing is made of stainless steel; the permissible surface temperature of the motor is -20 to +80degC.
