Kontron is launching two new COM Express compact Computer-on-Module families with Intel Atom E3800 series processors and Intel Celeron N2900 / J1900 series processors. The new modules extend the existing Intel SoC-based COM Express portfolio to embrace especially powerful compact variants with full type 6 I/O support including PCI Express, LAN, USB and Digital Display interfaces. In total, Kontron now offers 16 different configuration options in this COM Express Computer-on-Module performance class. These range from particularly cost-efficient single-core modules for indoor digital signage applications right up to top performance quad-core modules for deployment in harsh outdoor environments and at temperatures of -40degC to +85degC. Due to this high level of scalability, customers will always find a Kontron module with the right feature set that fits their application, which in turn reduces costs.

Regardless of which modules are selected by the customer, all the modules profit from excellent Gen7 Intel HD graphics for two independent monitors and the high processor performance offered by the new Intel Atom and Intel Celeron SoC processors which all boast low power consumption of 5 to 10W. Target industries include POS/POI and kiosk systems, digital signage players, gaming and medical PCs as well as HMIs and controllers in industrial machinery and equipment. Thanks to the COM Express standard, developers in all these markets have access to an extensive eco-system for x86 Computer-on-Modules and a seamless scalability from ultra-low-power SFF modules to high-end computing cores. Customers also benefit from Kontron’s extensive software and customisation services, which put them in a position to realize their new SFF designs faster and more efficiently.

The standard design of the COM Express compact modules – Kontron COMe-cBT6 – supports the entire portfolio of the Intel Atom E3800 processors (COMe-cBTi6) and Intel Celeron processors N2900 and J1900 (COMe-cBTc6), whereby the E3800 variants are designed for the extended temperature range of -40degC to +85degC. The memory of up to 2× 4GB has been laid out as dual-channel DDR3L SODIMM. With eMMC Flash, SD card slot and 2× SATA, ample storage options for OS and application code are available. Substantial USB support is also offered with 1× USB 3.0 and up to 8× USB 2.0.

The Kontron COMe-cBTi6R comes with an especially robust design and is tailored to suit shock- and vibration-proof mobile and stationary applications as well as the extended temperature range of -40degC to +85degC. It is exclusively equipped with Intel Atom E3800 family processors and soldered RAM. According to the different requirements of real-time controllers or memory-hungry HMIs either up to 4GB DDR3L with ECC or up to 8GB DDR3L without ECC is available. The support of Rapid Shutdown offers a fast shutdown of a computer system to minimise the risk of system or data tampering in mission-critical applications. Software and application data can be stored on the eMMC Flash and via 2 SATA interfaces. Any peripherals can be connected via 1× USB 3.0, 1× USB OTG, 8× USB 2.0 or 4× PCIe ×1.
