Advanced training programme for automation experts

Companies can ensure that their employees have validated automation expertise by undertaking the new advanced training programme from Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D), entitled the Sitrain Certification Programme.

After successfully completing the training programme, participants can prove their suitability for certain tasks by means of a certificate - which also improves their employment options. Meanwhile, companies profit from the capabilities and experience levels of their certified employees worldwide. In international projects, this also simplifies the search for appropriately qualified personnel and increases the confidence in planning. Companies certified in accordance with the quality standard DIN EN ISO 9001 can also use the certificates to prove the capabilities of their personnel and the effectiveness of the training measures.

The new Sitrain Certification Programme begins with two modules. Successful training as a Siemens Certified Automation Technician qualifies the participant to commission a Simatic S7 program, troubleshoot and expand the program in a Simatic S7 system, and to integrate HMI systems, distributed I/O and drives in Totally Integrated Automation (TIA).

The Siemens-Certified S7 Programmer can commission a Simatic S7, create a complex PLC program, configure HMI systems, and distributed I/O, and integrate drives in an existing automation environment. The prerequisite for both certificates is to successfully pass a five-hour practical test. After three years, the participants must be recertified by passing a new test. To prepare themselves for recertification, they can identify and learn how to use the latest technologies using refresher courses.

Both certificates ensure a worldwide, well-defined state of knowledge of automation technology. This is an advantage for both the company and the employee. Companies can look more easily for specialists with comparable expertise by means of job advertisements. Project managers have access to qualified personnel and they can rule out delays caused by a lack of training or different levels of training, avoid personnel bottlenecks early on and gain planning confidence for their projects. With a vendor certification, employees can prove that they are up to date on the current state of automation technology, if, for example, formal professional training was undertaken some time ago or they are about to make a change in their profession.
