Compact and Rugged addition to KISS family
Kontron has unveiled a new industrial silent server, the KISS-2U, which will be first presented at SPS/IPC/Drives show in Nuremberg, Germany. This latest addition to the KISS family of products offers a compact solution for harsh environments.

In both the Flex-ATX and PICMG 1.3 designs, the KISS-2U servers offer performance currently up to Intel® CoreTM Duo T2600 or Intel Core Solo T1400, Intel 945GM chipset, 533MHz FSB and up to 4GB DDR2 main storage. Intel Core Duo processors offer up to twice as much performance in comparison to Intel® Pentium® M processors at a given GHz clock rate and with as little as 31 watts especially low power input. The Intel Core Duo also allows two processes to be reliably executed in parallel and without processor-interdependencies.
With the Flex-ATX configuration, 2x Gbit Ethernet, 6x USB 2.0, 4x RS232C, 2x IEEE1394 and audio are designed as interfaces on the back. On the front, 2x USB 2.0 are available. As expansion options, 1x PCIe-x1 and 1x PCI can be used. With the PICMG 1.3 configuration, the potential expansion options increase to PCIeX16, 1x PCIeX1 (or in the future 1x PCIeX4) and 3x PCI.
The hard drive access in every configuration is SATA-quick and especially secure thanks to on-board RAID support (RAID 0/1/5/10). A 5.25-inch slot accessible from the front and two internal 3.5-inch slots that are both shock-proof offer sufficient space for hard drives or other modules. Two temperature-controlled, extremely quiet, hot-swappable fans facilitate the rare service for the extremely robust and shock-resistant systems whose MTBF is specified as 50,000 hours (~ 5.7 years continuous operation).
The chassis for the KISS system is designed either for the desktop or for installation in 19-inch cabinets. It has a closable front cover that offers IP20 protection. The KISS systems are designed for continuous operation and are CE-certified and UL-suitable.
KISS-2U servers will be available directly from the warehouse as standard systems starting in January 2007 or customized as needed and delivered as tested and independently certified solutions in their entirety.
