DIN rail power supplies with DC-DC converter modules
IDEC is launching the PS6R series switching power supply that is compact and incorporates many features not normally seen with a 'standard' DIN rail power supply. As example of how compact these power supplies are, the 120W version measures just 37mm wide.
While the main control voltage within a machine or control system needs 24V DC to power the PLC, relays, pushbuttons and other control components, many other functions and systems within the machine or process require additional voltages - maybe to power load cells, for example. In addition, efficiency and reliability are becoming ever more important to machine builders and system integrators. To meet these demands, such as additional voltages, IDEC is claiming to be the first in the industry to offer a series of DC-DC converters that provide multiple voltage outputs from the single PSU unit base unit. The DC-DC converter module options can provide a range of voltages including +/-5V, +12V, +/-15V and measure only 21mm wide; they clip directly to the side of the main PSU unit, thereby saving space saving and reducing wiring time - and reducing the overall cost of the system build.
The PS6R PSU has an overall efficiency of 93 per cent, which is high when compared to the majority of the competition in the general PSU market, once again providing cost saving due to the energy saving, and providing high reliability due to a wide operating temperature (-10 to +70degC), which enables continuous operation. In addition, the PS6R has the capability of both serial and parallel connectivity, allowing the option of doubling up the PSU power in order to provide an output current in excess of 960W for systems with a higher power requirement. Each PSU also has an NPN output to confirm 'DC OK', which can be used to alarm the system controller that the DC output has dropped below 80 per cent.
Finally, the PS6R power supply meets the relevant international standards including EN 61204-3 (Electromagnetic compatibility Class B), is CE marked (LVD and EMCD), as well as having UL, cUL and TUV (EN 60950-1 and EN 50178) certifications.
