On 1 January 2015, efficiency requirements for electric motors in the European Union will become stricter according to the European Commission Regulation (EC) 640/2009 implementing the Ecodesign Directive 2005/32/EC. As of that date, motors rated between 7.5kW and 375kW that are designed for continuous operation with a constant load must at least comply with the IE3 energy efficiency standard. Alternatively, motors that meet the IE2 efficiency level and are equipped with an electronic variable-speed drive (VSD) can be used.
Nord Drivesystems provides extensive information as well as expert advice for customers wishing to specify and design-in suitable motors and complete drive systems. In order to make the transition easy for machine and plant manufacturers, the dimensions of Nord's IE3 motors will remain largely identical to those of IE2 models, allowing for retrofitting without the need to modify machines and plants.
