Force measurement to meet today's production requirements

HBM will present products and systems for integrating force measurement and data acquisition within today's industrial process control and test and measurement systems on stand D24 at this year's Sensors & Instrumentation exhibition that takes place at the NEC, Birmingham on 30 September and 1 October 2014. Moreover, there will be several demonstrations showcasing an array of different products. Key personnel will also be available throughout the show to demonstrate instrumentation and answer questions.

Demonstrations include a filling and dosing model with HBM's FIT/5 digital load cell that offers many benefits including high accuracy, very fast measurement and simplified integration. In addition, the load cell's protection to IP68 means that it can be used in particularly difficult operating conditions where dust or moisture is likely to be present.

An aseptic tank model will highlight HBM's hygienic EHEDG-approved PW27 load cell that is made from food-compatible stainless steel and is antibacterial by being dotted with silver ions. The PW27 offers increased efficiency and accuracy in filling systems and packaging machinery with maximum reliability, even in the aseptic production of food, pharmaceuticals and other products.

Yet another demonstration will see a ball drop test with HBM's U10M force transducer working in conjunction with its GEN3i data recorder. The improved U10M force transducer is based on strain gauge technology for measuring static and dynamic tensile and compressive loads and is protected to IP68 for use in challenging ambient conditions. The mobile GEN3i data recorder transfers data directly to the storage medium at speeds as high as 200MB/s, while up to 96 input channels can be configured as required. It has an innovative touchscreen user interface that is said to be as easy to use as any smartphone, and HBM says it offers a virtually unlimited range of application possibilities.

Fitting processes will also be demonstrated utilising the MP85A FASTpress amplifier that monitors production processes in real time, directly, during an on-going operation enabling users to identify problems immediately.

HBM will also be presenting a paper at the seminar on Tuesday 30 September. Thomas Kleckers, HBM's Product Manager for Force Transducers, will examine the challenges in measuring compressive forces with modern technology.
