Weaver PLC has started work on a new £3million headquarters for Fortress Interlocks. Due for completion in March 2008, the 2800m2 premises at Monmore Grange Estate includes a two-storey office building plus a steel-frame production and warehouse facility designed to enhance working practices and provide an improved environment for the 56 people currently employed.
Fortress Interlocks designs and manufactures specialist safety interlocking equipment for potentially hazardous workplaces and is renowned for its culture of innovation. It was recently honoured in the Queen's Awards for Enterprise for its range of innovative modular interlocks that can be adapted to changing circumstances.
Established over 40 years ago, the company has been based on Birmingham New Road since 1985 and, according to managing director Mike Golding, the relocation will pave the way for future expansion. He says: "The move to our new headquarters is one of the major milestones in the transformation of the Fortress business from a small Black Country engineering company to a global supplier of industrial interlocking products."
