Free Machine Automation Training Days in late 2008

Following the success of its series of free Machine Automation Training Days held throughout the UK and Ireland earlier in 2008, Bosch Rexroth plans further dates in the last quarter of 2008. Aimed at those that design or build industrial machines, the Machine Automation Training Days demonstrate how to reduce costs, reduce risk and simplify machine automation through the use of new ideas.

As part of its ongoing commitment to providing excellent after-sales customer service, Bosch Rexroth has developed a range of effective training programmes. RPC Containers awarded Bosch Rexroth the supply contact for an ongoing project. As part of this project, Mark Richards, Engineering Project Manager at RPC Containers Llantrisant, attended the Cardiff training event. He says: "The training day, attended at Bosch Rexroth's regional technical centre in Pontypridd, proved to be very informative and provided the information required to carry out basic programming to the Rexroth range of PLCs, HMIs and servo drives. There was also the added bonus of the discussion on the mechanical background of the CMS system."

Delegates attending the Machine Automation Training Days found out first hand about the IEC 61131 standard and how its implementation can be optimised. They also learnt how to make machine design simple by integrating motion and control through PLCOpen Motion Control and applying Rexroth's IndraLogic PLC technology to enable their business to become more competitive. This programme also ran through some straightforward steps that can be taken to save time and money when designing, building and maintaining machines, thus avoiding the associated unscheduled downtime and stoppages.

Each attendee received a complimentary IEC 61131 PLC starter pack from Rexroth. Hardware contained within the pack includes Rexroth's IndraLogic L10 compact PLC with integrated Ethernet interface and IndraLogic I/O 16/16 input/output module. This is bundled with Rexroth's associated IEC 61131-3 programming package containing ladder, structured text, instruction list, sequential function chart and function block diagram editors, along with WinStudio to create a complete SCADA/HMI system.

Richards adds: "The course laid the foundations with the benefit of being able to come away with a basic package of PLC. This gave me the ability to self-educate and gain experience in the programming language and has proved to be a good learning tool. I have also used Rexroth's PLC starter pack to provide training for other staff members and apprentices.

"All in all the day was well structured with the information given to a good high standard. Examples of programming showed how easy the Rexroth range is to use." Richards now looks forward to more advanced training in the area of servo motors/drives. Bosch Rexroth has already planned further Machine Automation Training Days for the second half of 2008.
