Festo is offering a free Safety@Festo poster outlining safety for pneumatic control systems. It provide methods for evaluating and assessing safety measures in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1, IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and IEC 62061.
While there is a wealth of guidance available from various sources on the subject of electrical aspects of machinery safety, there is considerably less for pneumatic aspects. This poster is, therefore, a most welcome and helpful publication.
At the top of the poster there is a section covering risk assessment, ten safety functions, and the process by which a trigger event is linked to a drive by means of inputs, logic and outputs.
The rest of the poster is divided into EN ISO 13849-1 on the left, and IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and IEC 62061 on the right. For the applicable standard, users can work their way down the poster, following the methodology outlined.
Clearly there is a limit to the amount of information that can be published on a poster, so Festo has also prepared a Safety Engineering Guidelines manual, which it would be wise to request or download at the same time as the poster.
