Firstsight Vision is introducing five new AVT Guppy ultra-compact cameras for industrial and scientific OEMs, system Integrators and resellers. Available in monochrome or colour versions, the AVT Guppy camera family uses the IEEE-1394 FireWire serial digital interface. The new models are equipped with Sony Interlaced CCDs and are believed to be the only interlaced FireWire cameras currently available. Two of the new models feature sensors with Sony's EXview HAD CCD technology, which is claimed to dramatically increase sensitivity, especially into the near-infrared region (NIR) of the spectrum.
Offering a highly cost-effective entry into digital image processing, these new cameras are very easy to use in applications where interlaced analogue cameras and framegrabbers have traditionally been used. Integrated Smart Functions take over essential functions of the frame-grabber. These smart functions include a user-programmable look-up table, a configurable input and three configurable outputs. In particular, the EXview interlaced/NIR models suit applications where standard progressive scan CCDs are simply not sensitive enough.
Available either in a housing or as a board-only version upon request, AVT Guppy cameras are little bigger that the lens itself and fit in very small spaces. Extensive built-in image processing possibilities (image pre-processing) result in outstanding image quality and high performance. This makes the cameras particularly suitable for use in industrial image processing and product automation applications.
