Heavy-duty drives for the metals industry: Nord at METEC 2015
Nord Drivesystems provides drive technology for heavy-duty applications in the steel and metals industry. Gear units, motors, and drive electronics are custom-configured and supplied with electrical, mechanical, and thermal design options to suit the target application.
Compact, totally enclosed non-ventilated (TENV / IC410) roller table motors are available with ring fins or straight fins. Based on decades of industry experience, Nord implements application-specific motor winding patterns to ensure tough torque characteristics with high breakdown torques. The durable roller table motors handle demanding load situations such as high-frequency reversing operation. Shock- and vibration-absorbing cast-iron housings and reinforced bearings and shafts ensure high mechanical resilience and a long service life. Totally enclosed motors with an internal or external fan (TEFC / IC411 or TEFV / IC416) and numerous additional options from the modular Nord program are also available.
In addition to several steel mills in India and the USA, major recent Nord projects in the metals industry include the drive infrastructure for a section rolling mill in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the largest of its kind in the Middle East, where the roller tables alone are actuated by over 600 Nord drives.
