High-torque backstop clutches feature non-contact overrunning
Tsubaki's new BR-HT backstop cam clutches provide a high torque (up to 366,00Nm) backstop functions and high-speed (3600rpm) overrunning. Suitable for OEM applications, the clutches integrate an innovative design of lift-off cams that provide mechanical engagement only when needed, and optimised speed overrunning with no contact between cams and races.
The high torque capacity of the BR-HT backstop cam clutch results from a design featuring a full complement of cams that provides the maximum number of load-transmitting members for a given diameter. This is claimed to deliver greater torque capacity, size-for-size, than other types of one-way clutches.
Tsubaki's design of the cams used in the BR-HT clutch is also claimed to offer a unique cross-section that provides positive mechanical engagement only when required. At all other times the cam clutch rotates freely with no mechanical contact in the clutch mechanism. The result of this non-contact operation is greatly increased service life in comparison with conventional type clutches.
Easy integration
The BR-HT backstop cam clutches are robust units featuring a simple design in which the cam clutch mechanism is incorporated within a cage between standard-dimension inner and outer bearing races. This enables the cam clutch to be easily and economically integrated in a wide variety of mechanical systems. The facility for this type of mounting is further enhanced by a keyway that simplifies installation by ensuring positive location and fixing of the clutch onto a shaft.
BR-HT Series cam clutches are intended for use on equipment such as inclined conveyors and bucket elevators. The range is described as comprehensive, comprising 65 units with bore sizes from 20 to 320mm, torque capacities from 105 to 366,000Nm, and maximum overrunning speeds from 1000 to 3600rpm.
