Berger Lahr is now shipping IclA compact drives that integrate everything required for decentralised automation. In addition to power and positioning electronics, there is a comprehensive range of communication interfaces. With the newly added Industrial Ethernet option, the intelligent motor and drive product range is said to communicate on virtually all commonly encountered industrial fieldbus protocols.
In addition to CANopen, Profibus DP, DeviceNet and RS485, Berger Lahr has now integrated Industrial Ethernet into its IclA compact drives. Deterministic Ethernet Powerlink, EtherCAT and Modbus-IDA protocols meet realtime requirements. Berger Lahr says that now, for the first time, compact drives in the power range of up to 350W can implement synchronous operating modes in multi-axis applications such as electronic gear, electronic cam profile, cross-cutting or flying shear applications. Furthermore, applications that are not time-critical, such as format adjustments and downloading new motion sequences and profiles, are also possible. The transmission of data via Ethernet ensures end-to-end communication systems from the fieldbus level to corporate networks and the Internet in a single network. Easy portability of the data enables access to all areas of the company, for example for machine performance monitoring and diagnostic.
The new Ethernet connectivity means that users can take advantage of convenient standard networking while retaining experience in their chosen fieldbus technology. Ethernet is the standard for many control devices and the new Ethernet-enabled products provide for greater flexibility for integration, which assists in implementing effective and competitive applications.
Berger Lahr offers integrated Ethernet technology for all three IclA versions: AC synchronous servo motors, brushless DC motors and stepper motors. Additional protocols such as Profinet or Ethernet IP are currently being implemented.
Rav Lawana, the director of Berger Lahr, says: "This is a significant development in our product range that will allow our users to have easier and more cost-effective motion integration."
