Inmoco introduces Elmo's DC Trombone digital servo drive

Inmoco is adding the DC Trombone to its range of high-performance digital servo drives from Elmo Motion Control. Based on Elmo's advanced SimplIQ motion control technology, the DC Trombone operates directly from the mains and delivers 7kW of continuous qualitative power.

The DC Trombone is suitable for integration into any motion system, either standalone, or multi-axis, providing a high-performance motion control unit for use with sinusoidal, trapezoidal and DC motors. Despite its compact footprint, the Trombone is feature-rich, offering high power density, and integrating vector control sinusoidal commutation, advanced filtering and velocity gain scheduling for enhanced dynamic performance. These features, plus programming flexibility, CANopen networking and a wide range of feedback options, make the Trombone an excellent OEM servo drive.

At the heart of the DC Trombone is Elmo's SimplIQ technology. Combining advanced motion control with real-time networking capabilities, and delivering feedback and I/O options and programming capabilities, SimplIQ enables the DC Trombone to bring increased precision to a range of automated applications, including robotics, machine tools, packaging, semiconductor production, materials handling, sorting, printing, textiles and many more.

Integrating the DC Trombone into automated applications is accomplished using Elmo's third-generation Composer software. A universal programming language, Composer provides flexible and intuitive programming and smooth operation for single or multi-axis set-ups, manual and automatic tuning of current, velocity and position loops, a motion monitor and scope for testing, network monitoring and debugging tools, and also facilitates communication via serial RS-232 and CANopen.

Two versions for flexibility

The DC Trombone offers the flexibility of two versions to best meet specific user requirements. The Standard DC Trombone is a basic servo drive which operates in current, velocity and position modes, including Follower and PT & PVT. It operates simultaneously via RS-232 and CANopen DS 301, DS 305, DS 402 communications, and features a third-generation programming environment.

Alternatively, the Advanced DC-Trombone includes all the motion capabilities and communication options included in the Standard model, as well as advanced positioning capabilities: ECAM, Dual Loop and increased program size.

The DC Trombone operates with a wide DC bus range of 50V DC up to 750V DC. It has a built-in smart supply for controlling back-up capabilities; it can also operate with a 24V DC auxiliary power supply for back-up features. The servo drive also offers a wide range of feedback options: encoders, resolvers, tachometers and potentiometers, for easy integration into any motion system.
