Inmoco introduces ServoWire Motion and Logic Controller

Inmoco is launching its new UK distribution partnership with USA motion control company, Ormec Systems Corp, with the introduction of Ormec's new single-axis ServoWire Motion and Logic Controller (SMLC-SA). The SMLC-SA provides a fully integrated single-axis servo controller. It integrates high-performance drive technology with open IEC 61131-3 programming capabilities in a single, compact, cost-effective package that reduces total system costs by replacing standalone PLC and single-axis motion controllers.

The single-box approach provided by the SMLC-SA is powerful enough to control an entire machine, at the same time reducing wiring complexity, panel space requirements, and programming effort using all five IEC 61131-3 languages. Programming is undertaken using standard PLCopen motion control function blocks that reduce software development costs, while powerful Ormec application-specific function blocks, such as Reciprocating Flying Shear and Rotary Knife, are available.

Ormec's SMLC-SA uses the same development and commissioning tools as the entire SMLC product line. These tools provide seamless scalability from one to sixteen axes. The CoDeSys Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and runtime engine are robust, full-featured tools with extensive diagnostic capabilities. ServoWire Pro is an easy-to-use, integrated suite of configuration, tuning, diagnostic and maintenance utilities to assist in the commissioning of the drive. PLCopen standard motion control function blocks, plus powerful ORMEC extensions, reduce software development costs and bring new levels of motion performance and machine control to single-axis applications.

Up to 16 axes

Developing systems from one to sixteen axes is said to be seamless as a result of the CoDeSys, Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and runtime engine, and Ormec's ServoWire Pro development and commissioning tools. The CoDeSys IDE and runtime engine are robust, fully-featured tools with extensive diagnostic capabilities. They are described as world-class IEC 61131-3 tools that offer the added benefit of being used in hundreds of products worldwide. Complementing the CoDeSys system, ServoWire Pro is an easy-to-use, integrated suite of configuration, diagnostic and maintenance utilities that assist in the commissioning of the drive.

The task of integrating the SMLC-SA into machine structures - and complete factory automation systems - is made easy by a number of integrated product features. First, there is built-in I/O: 27 digital and 4 analogue, which is expandable to thousands.

Second there is a complete line of networked I/O expansion modules available, based on Ethernet, that can handle thousands of I/O points.

Third, HMI and factory networking support is provided via built-in Modbus/TCP as well as via the free OPC server.

The SMLC-SA range is wide, comprising fourteen models covering the output power range from 600W to 24kW. The SA230 series offers eight models with continuous output currents from 2.4-60A RMS/phase for 115-230V AC input. The SA460 series offers six models with continuous output currents from 5-50A RMS/phase for 230-460V AC input.
