Linear actuator design enables automated maintenance

Diakont DA Series actuators, available in the UK through INMOCO, have been designed for easy installation and maintenance. Their compact design means they are well suited for space-restricted applications, while the integral servo motor makes installation a single step process. Installation is simplified because the DA actuators are designed so that they can be mounted in a number of different ways, including flange mounting, using a rear clevis pin, extended tie rods and trunnion mounting.

Linear actuator design enables automated maintenance

Maintenance is made fast, simple and cost effective by a patented system that allows complete lubrication changes to be carried out, without the need to remove the actuator from its machine or to disassemble it.

In the sort of demanding applications where the DA units are likely to be used, long-term reliable performance is vital and often downtime has to be kept to a minimum. To meet these requirements, the actuators can have a complete lubrication change in situ, a process that usually takes less than 30 minutes. The service engineer simply opens two bypass valves and connects the actuator to a special Diakont service kit; the old lubrication is pumped out and replaced with new lubrication by cycling the actuator. There is no need to dismount the actuator from its mounting.

INMOCO says that this fast, simple maintenance routine makes the Diakont DA series actuators highly attractive for applications where downtime has to be kept to a minimum, where the working environment is so demanding that complicated procedures become very difficult, and where there is not a convenient workshop in which to do the servicing.

The DA series actuators are based on a proven inverted roller screw mechanism that is compact yet capable of carrying high loads and offering a working life many times longer than ballscrew alternatives. They were originally developed for and proven in the nuclear industry, and INMOCO is now finding uses for them in a wide variety of other applications.

Typical uses include presses, bending machines and other machine tools, automated welding systems and factory automation, clinching, plastic moulding machines, clamping, work holding, packaging machines etc.
