LMI Gocator 3D laser line profilers available from Stemmer

Stemmer Imaging and LMI Technologies Inc have signed a distribution agreement that will make the LMI Gocator 2000 series of smart 3D sensors available in Germany, the UK, Ireland, France, Austria and Switzerland. The Gocator is a new, simple-to use, all-in-one device that is said to make 3D measurement and control for factory automation accessible to all levels of users. Compared with other industrial 3D laser line profilers, the Gocator is said to be more powerful yet it costs some 3-4000 less.

According to Stemmer Imaging, the Gocator 2000 series is an exciting new breed of pre-calibrated sensors that make industrial 3D measurements more affordable and available to a wider range of applications. Ease of use is leveraged by the built-in web server as an effective GUI for rapid setup and control. Users can connect, set up exposure and speeds, visualise profiles, measure dimensions, select communication outputs, and monitor results using Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome or Safari web browsers. This built-in web connectivity enables users to access the sensor from any PC without additional software, drivers, control boxes, amplifiers or dependence on a specific operating system.

Mark Williamson, Director of Corporate Market Development at Stemmer Imaging, comments: "Both Stemmer Imaging's 3D components business and 2D smart camera and sensor business are sectors that are delivering significant growth. The addition of 3D smart camera technology to our portfolio brings together both these technologies into an easy-to-deploy product using web-based configuration. LMI Technologies is a world leader in delivering 3D technology to many OEMs and we are delighted to be able to bring this state-of-th-art sensor technology to both Europe and the end user factory automation marketplace."

"New category of flexible 3D sensors"

Terry Arden, LMI Technologies' CEO, adds: "Gocator represents an evolutionary leap as it creates a new category of flexible 3D sensors that are powerful, easy to use, and competitively priced. Gocator was developed to carry out 3D inspection and integrate with factory I/O - all from a web browser experience. You do not have to be a system integrator or machine vision expert to perform 3D measurement!"

Users can also go beyond the built-in measurement tools by using C language scripting to perform custom calculations or define unique logic decisions. All of the Gocators in the 2000 series are 'network aware', enabling one sensor to be paired with a 'buddy' Gocator for more sophisticated differential measurement tasks. A Software Development Kit is available for power users to connect a series of Gocators to form a networked system to scan large or complex objects. Rich I/O and simplified cabling support a variety of common digital and analogue interface requirements. Within the product families there is a choice of resolutions and models for operating at different measurement ranges.
