Micromech to distribute 650 and 690+ series drives from SSD

SSD Drives, which is part of the Parker Automation Group, has appointed Micromech to distribute its high-performance drives. As a UK-based manufacturer, SSD has been designing and building drives for over 30 years to become a global supplier. The two families of drives to be distributed by Micromech are the 650 and the 690+ ranges, both well known throughout industry.

The 650 and 650V AC inverters are for motors from 0.2-110kW and are designed to provide a simple, no-fuss speed control that is cost-effective for simple and complex open-loop motor control applications. The 650 has single-key selectable pre-programmed applications, so set-up is quick and easy without unnecessary complications.

In addition, the 650V benefits from an ultra-high-torque sensorless vector algorithm and the control flexibility provided by fully configurable Function Block Programming. Powers are available up to 110kW on 400V three-phase supplies and 1.5kW on 230V supplies; all units include integral EMC-compliant filters.

The SSD drives are extremely simple to set up and operate with integral operator controls. They have an optional remote mounting facility and an exceptionally compact design. The 650 can handle a 150 per cent overload for 30 seconds and also has a motor thermistor input.

Wide range of applications

The 690+ Integrator handles motors of 0.75-1000kW and is designed to meet the requirements of all variable speed drive (VSD) applications from simple single-motor speed control through to the most sophisticated integrated multi-drive systems.

Three-phase (380-500V) ratings are available from 0.37-1000kW and single-phase ratings (220-240V) from 0.37-2.2kW. At the heart of the 690+ is a highly advanced, 32-bit microprocessor-based motor control algorithm that provides an excellent dynamic performance platform to which can be added a host of control options that enables the drive to be tailored to meet customers' exact requirements.

The 690+ offers open-loop (V/F), sensorless, vector and closed-loop vector control in a single drive. It has function block programming, common programming, communicates with a host of the most common fieldbus protocols, and comes with numerous useful software tools. They are dual-rated for constant or quadratic 'fan' torque and, of course, have integral EMC compliant filters.

SSD is a leading specialist in the drives market and the appointment of Micromech is part of its programme to develop new opportunities and grow the business. Paul Seale, Regional Manager of Parker Automation, says: "we have selected Micromech because of their proven track record in the motion and control industry. Their organisation and expertise is precisely the vehicle we need to expand our UK sales and we look forward to a long and successful relationship".

For Micromech, Product Manager Stirling Morley, adds: "we have been associated with Parker Hannifin for many years and had the good fortune to be offered many of their motion products as they have extended their electromechanical ranges. These AC drives are just such an excellent opportunity."
