In the past machine builders have had to order various components in order to implement a safety light beam system with muting - in some cases, components even have to be purchased from different suppliers. These then have to be connected to create the safety system, which takes time and effort. This is why it can be difficult for the design engineer to select the right components as early as in the planning phase of a system. In addition, the time needed for commissioning a muting system is often critical; installing the components, aligning the transmitters and receivers, and integrating the components within the safety-related control system all consumes valuable time.

Modular system set

Leuze electronic has therefore developed an improved universal concept for systems for access guarding - above all with muting - and it is called the MLDSET Light Beam Safety Device Sets. An MLD type Multiple Light Beam Safety Device with integral muting is used as the central element in a new UDC Device Column. As before, great importance was attached to high availability and freedom from interference, meaning adjustment of the system to the safety technology is not necessary.

With the new MLDSET Light Beam Safety Device Sets, Leuze electronic provides well-thought-out solutions that correspond to the application requirements, regardless of whether two- or three-beam transceiver systems are needed. With MLDSET, access guarding both with two- and four-sensor muting in diverse protective heights can be implemented more quickly, easily and, therefore, more cost-effectively.

Each MLDSET Light Beam Safety Device Set also contains the Deflecting Mirror and the new UDC Device Column onto which the pre-aligned Muting Sensor Sets can be screwed at any height and with any alignment; they can also be connected easily to the MLD Light Beam Safety Device via an internal local connection box. These Muting Sensor Sets are lateral mounting arms that have already been equipped with muting Light Beam Devices from the Leuze electronic 25B series, meaning they are pre-mounted and aligned. These Light Beam Devices are claimed to perform exceptionally well on foil-wrapped pallets.

Save time installing light guards

The UDC Device Column enables easy mounting on, for example, roller conveyors and pallet transfer stations, thanks to its spring-mounted foot that is free-standing and firmly anchored to the floor. Precise vertical and axial alignment is said to be easy. Spring elements in the foot of the columns also ensure automatic resetting after mechanical impacts.

All cables are protected under neutral-coloured covers and laid so they are not visible. The Light Beam Safety Device Sets therefore fulfil the requirements for a modern, appealing and robust system design. They also can be delivered optionally with a display and control unit. This control box is equipped for direct mounting on a physical guard. It has a reset button for the start/restart interlock and for overriding following a muting fault (muting restart/override).

Muting light curtains sets with a single part number

The Light Beam Safety Device Set with all components can be ordered by specifying just a single part number instead of many individual items. This simplifies the ordering process immensely. Everything needed arrives on the same day, pre-mounted and ready for installation. If desired, all components contained in the modular system can be combined in any way. This means a muting light curtain can be tailored from modular components in the versatile system to suit almost any application.
