Parker Hannifin is launching the Compax3M (C3M) servo drive that has been developed specifically for use with a wide range of multi-axis applications, providing a powerful yet easy-to-use system that is also compact. Indeed, the C3M is believed to be the slimmest servo drive currently available.
In common with the Compax3 family, the new C3M can be programmed using the standard IEC 61131-3 language, with support for conventional industry protocols including Profibus, Ethernet Powerlink, EtherCAT, CANopen and DeviceNet. Dynamic, synchronised multi-axis control is provided either internally or through an optional external PLC module.
The C3M offers a range of features intended to simplify setup and operation and improve reliability, performance and productivity. This includes the capability of straightforward positional control, with function modules based on PLCopen, or cam function modules for more complex positioning applications. In addition, the drive provides fast control loops, with positional response being 125usec. The jerk-limited setpoint generation guarantees a longer service life of mechanical components. Similarly, the system offers automatic acquisition of the load moment of inertia, motor ratings and motor position feedback and has as standard eight digital inputs and four digital outputs, two analogue inputs and outputs and both RS232 and RS485 interfaces.
C3M drives are available for use with applications of up to 30A, with the 5, 10 and 15A versions measuring only 50mm in width and the larger 30A versions being 100mm wide. The new drive helps to minimise installation costs by the integration of components such as mains filters and braking resistors into the drive system and also reduces wiring. In addition, the modular design of the C3M with a central power module enables it to be used with different voltage supply sources without the need for extra adaptors.
The C3M units also comply with the EN ISO 13849 machinery safety standard, with simplified wiring and mounting facilities for extra safety.
The addition of the C3M to the Compax3 family of drives enables Parker to offer a wider choice to customers, from single-axes in the low- to medium-power range, through devices for higher power applications of up to 155A, to servo controllers for hydraulics and now multi-axis applications.
