Pentair will be presenting new and ongoing developments in its Schroff brand in the field of embedded systems at this year’s Embedded World.
A particular highlight during the exhibition will be the unveiling of Pentair’s new, flexible Interscale product family: a series of enclosures for non-standardised, smaller form factors. The Schroff Interscale M case is made from metal and has been developed for a variety of applications, such as a fanless fieldbus enclosure, or for single-board computer (SBC) or ARM modules, mobile diagnostic or therapeutic equipment for medical systems, PC-based point-of-sale (POS) systems, video monitoring for building services or peripheral control units for industrial applications.
Three versions of the Schroff Interscale M case are available – off-the-shelf, modified and customised – each of which is designed on the same basis. The off-the-shelf case, which is available in 1, 2 or 3 U and various widths and depths, consists of four elements: a robust U-shaped body, front and rear panels, and a cover.
Pentair continues to widen its portfolio of products for different bus technologies. The company will also present small systems for high processing and graphics-handling capacity that offer high levels of modularity, expandability and redundancy. These include 2-slot AdvancedTCA systems, 2-slot AMC systems and small 3 U high CompactPCI Serial systems with 205mm depth and 28 HP width along with systems for MicroTCA and VPX. These small form-factor Schroff modular systems are based on trusted product platforms such as standard subracks or chassis and are configured to customer requirements from off-the-shelf components, including cooling, power supply etc., with dimensions that can be adapted to specific conditions.
Pentair will also present a newly developed tool that makes configuration of these and other Schroff systems very simple for customers. The Pentair ‘System Selection Tool’ is available online at schroff.co.uk/solutions/selection-tool.html. Customers use the tool to select the required bus technology and then choose between an ex-stock system and configuring an individual system. In the case of individual configurations, either specific construction concepts are specified or all the general conditions of the required system are clarified and a suitable system automatically displayed, as a basis for requesting a quote.
More and more frequently, systems are requested that offer higher performance in respect of mechanical stability including shock and vibration resistance, IP and EMC protection and cooling. For example, in energy systems such as wind turbines or in oil production, smaller, decentralised electronics and control units are increasingly being used that require very high levels of protection.
The Schroff Titan system has been further improved and is now the standard system in the product portfolio. Various aspects have been taken into account during its development, for example, weight reduction, optimised cooling fins and improved heat transfer for conduction cooling. The new off-the-shelf systems, which also continue to form the basis for customised options, thus form a comprehensive product family for various bus technologies, based on flexible modular Schroff Titan systems with high-speed backplanes and suitable power supply arrangements for non-military applications.
