New packaged torque limiter for geared motors
ComInTec is launching a new range of torque limiters that are built to fit between standard framed electric motors and their gearboxes. This suits applications where it is not practical to fit the torque limiter on the output of the gearbox. The PR-V range of torque limiters connects using B5 flanges and features a ball-type torque limiter for release torques between 2 and 720Nm. It incorporates an 8mm diameter proximity sensor to detect overloads and so allow the motor to be turned off.
There are six sizes in the range of PR-V torque limiters suiting IEC motors of frame sizes 63 to 180. They are designed to run at motor speeds and are backlash free. The ball-type design is both sensitive and fast acting. As an overload is detected two rotating discs move apart and the remaining transmitted torque is minimal. The axial movement is detected by the proximity sensor allowing the motor to be turned off and an alarm to be signalled. The nature of mechanical torque limiters like the PR-V is that they are much faster to respond than electrical overload detection systems, so giving better protection to machine parts and operating personnel.
