The European Commission has published a new list of standards that are Harmonised to the Machinery Directive 98/37/EC. The list, which replaces all previous lists, was published in the Official Journal (OJ) (221kB PDF) of the European Union on 24 June 2008.

One of the most notable standards in the list of 24 June 2008 is EN ISO 14121-1:2007 Safety of machinery - Risk assessment - Part 1: Principles, which supersedes EN 1050:1996.

MachineBuilding.net has published a free Guide to the New Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. When the new Directive comes into force on 29 December 2009 there will be no transition period, so it is essential that companies building machines or partly-assembled machines, as well as those performing final assembly or importing machinery for use in the European Economic Area, start preparing for the changes now.
