Rugged programmable touchscreen displays for mobile applicationsParker Hannifin is introducing a new family of master display units for use within its IQANdesign platform system. The platform provides innovative and advanced ways to provide electronic control in a wide range of mobile applications such as materials handling, forestry, construction and agriculture. IQAN-MD4 displays are fully programmable, rugged touchscreen units optimised for ease of integration, configuration and day-to-day use in the harsh outdoor and in-cab environments typical in this market sector.

The IQAN-MD4 has an 18cm (7in), high brightness (800 lumens/cm2) display that ensures excellent viewing in all light conditions. This is enhanced by an optically bonded display construction that helps achieve a wide viewing angle of +/- 85 degrees and alleviates the risk of condensation. A 14cm (5.7in) version with an optional touchscreen – the IQAN-MD5 is also available. The new display units utilise a highly responsive capacitive (PCAP) touchscreen; for functions or applications where a gloved hand is used, this can be interfaced with external electromechanical buttons and switches. Fast system start-up from power-on helps to maximise productivity for equipment operators.

Completely environmentally sealed (IP65 & IP6K9K rated), and with a display thickness of just 4.5mm and a behind-panel thickness of 46.7mm, the IQAN-MD4 is easy to integrate into vehicle cabs and other mobile applications. Flush, integrated panel mounting is achieved quickly and easily using steel clips supplied with the unit. An optional extruded aluminium holder allows for RAMTM mounting that enables the display to be attached to an adjustable arm that can be positioned to suit the operator’s requirements. Rack mounting and standalone use is also possible. The displays can be configured in either landscape or portrait orientation to suit specific application needs.

The IQANdesign platform provides an intuitive and easy-to-use software environment that allows rapid and straightforward design of an application specific human machine interface (HMI) for users with no programming knowledge or experience. The simplified design process with auto-generated diagnostic measurements saves time and is guided by a comprehensive choice of templates and libraries.

IQAN-MD4 has a comprehensive level of rear panel connectivity including ‘future proof’ high-speed Ethernet, CAN bus, digital I/Os, plus voltage and encoder inputs. The multi-protocol environment also allows direct streaming of video from cameras to the display therefore overcoming the need for separate camera monitors.

Parker Hannifin’s new IQAN-MD4 family has an operating temperature range of -30degC to +70degC, and a storage temperature range of -40degC to +85degC – this can be an important specification for applications where vehicles may remain outdoors overnight in cold climates.
