P20 handheld pyrometer measures any target including hot metals

Micro-Epsilon UK is extending its range of non-contact temperature measurement devices with a new series of low-cost, handheld laser thermometers that measure temperatures from 0degC to 2000degC. The series includes four wavelength versions for optimum measurement of any material or object, including molten metal, sheet metal and other metal structures such as steel girders.

The thermoMETER P20 series now includes four versions that operate at different wavelengths across different temperature bands. The user selects the appropriate thermometer for the respective temperature range and target material/object.

The standard P20 version measures temperatures from 0degC to 1300degC at an optical resolution of 120:1, across a spectral range of 8-14um to suit a wide variety of materials.

The P20 M1 measures temperatures from 650degC to 1800degC at an optical resolution of 300:1, at a specific wavelength of 1.0um to suit metals. The P20 M2 measures temperatures from 385degC to 1600degC at an optical resolution of 300:1, at a specific wavelength of 1.6um, enabling accurate measurements at a safe distance. The P20 M5 measures temperatures from 1000degC to 2000degC at an optical resolution of 150:1, at a specific wavelength of 525nm to suit molten metals.

Robust, lightweight and easy to use, the thermoMETER P20 series reliably measures temperatures up to a maximum distance of 12m from the target. An integral double laser pointer indicates the spot size at any distance. A sighting scope enables easy, precision sighting and alignment of the P20 with the target. The internal data memory can store up to 2000 measurement values, which can be downloaded later via a USB interface to the freely supplied IRConnect software. Emissivity is adjustable from 0.100 to 1.100.

As well as data storage for recorded measurement values, the software also provides an oscilloscope function that records up to 20 measurement values/second for real-time monitoring of processes. The P20 series also provides an audible or visible HIGH-LOW alarm function (MAX/MIN), indicated on a three-colour display.

Chris Jones, Managing Director at Micro-Epsilon UK comments: "The thermoMETER range from Micro-Epsilon is one of the broadest ranges of handheld laser thermometers in the world. In addition to the P20 series, our thermoMETER MS and LS handheld pyrometers are suitable for measuring temperatures down to -35 degrees Centigrade. This means that our complete thermoMETER range now covers every type of temperature measurement application, from cold storage rooms and HVAC systems, to R&D labs, test benches, electronics, foundries and blast furnaces."
