Palm-sized colour touchscreen PLC is exceptional value
Unitronics is launching the Samba PLC with touchscreen display and I/O at a price that is similar to that of a PLC with a simple text display. System integrators and OEMs often develop applications that require PLC control but have to use devices with simple text displays due to limited budgets. Samba offers a better alternative for this type of application, with advantages for machine builders and end users alike.
Samba is an all-in-one, palm-size controller. The beautiful 3.5inch QVGA 16-bit touchscreen display enables data entry and display of variable data, including colour trend graphs and alarm screens. In terms of control functions the Samba supports sophisticated applications requiring auto-tuned PID loops, time-based control, data logging, recipes and more.
Furthermore, Samba also has digital, analogue and high-speed onboard I/O (inputs and outputs). The flat fascia - which is protected to IP66/IP65/NEMA4X - makes Samba an excellent choice for the food and pharmaceutical industries, or other applications where spray/wipe-down requirements apply. In addition, Samba supports a wide variety of communications protocols to match customers' specific application needs.
Unitronics' free VisiLogic software provides a single user-friendly environment for hardware and communications configuration, Ladder logic application development and HMI design; the package also includes a library of industrial images. Free utilities support remote PC access and data export, and Unitronics provides free technical support for all of its products, whether purchased directly or via distributors, and there is an active user forum.
Samba is said to offer all the functionality that system integrators need for small applications, reducing space requirements, wiring and eliminating the need to set up HMI-PLC communications. For machine builders and system integrators, the result is an excellent price/performance ratio.
