Tyco Electronics is launching a new high-current, printed circuit board edge connector with a current rating of 160A per linear inch - which is said to represent a 30 per cent increase in current density compared to existing power edge connectors. The SEC-II power connector is an improved version of the existing SEC line, with enhancements in contact design for efficient current transfer and a ventilated housing to keep the contacts cool.
Mike Blanchfield, global product manager for Tyco Electronics' power interconnects, says: "The SEC-II power connector combines the latest in efficient power contact designs, along with thermal dissipation benefits, to help set a new standard in card edge power delivery."
In addition, the AC and DC contact designs maximise the current-carrying capacity for use in AC/DC power supplies. The SEC-II power connector is available in both vertical and right-angle configurations.
