Pilz opens new UK facility for enhanced service and support

After over 25 years of trading, the UK subsidiary of Pilz had outgrown its existing facility, so the decision was taken to move. No suitable premises could be found, so the company purchased a brownfield site and proceeded to design and built a bespoke facility to house all of the company's functions. This includes not only sales, administration and warehousing, but also a flexible area for training and other events, and a further area dedicated to engineering and panel building.

Great care has been taken to create a building that is as energy-efficient as possible, and landscaping around the site will encourage wildlife to flourish. Construction began in 2012, the same year as the London Olympics, and Pilz was able to secure some architectural features from the decommissioned Olympic Stadium, namely a spiral staircase and glass balustrade.

Pilz believes that the new facility will enable it to make further improvements to its customer services. For example, more products can be held in stock for next-day delivery, the training facilities are much improved, more engineering work can be undertaken, panel building can be brought in-house for the first time, and customers can come on site for acceptance testing of new control systems. Furthermore, the new facility has sufficient space to enable Pilz to continue its expansion in the UK. To commemorate the official opening of the new facility on 3 May 2013, a time capsule was buried, to be retrieved in 50 years' time.
