At a glittering awards ceremony held at the Grosvenor Marriot hotel in central London, the Pilz SafetyEYE safe camera system for three-dimensional zone monitoring was declared Automation Product of the Year. Over 300 people attended the Electrical Industry Awards on 4 October 2007, all keen to hear who had won this year's 'Ellie' trophies. Ian Murgatroyd of Pilz Automation Technology accepted the Automation Product of the Year award from television and radio presenter Paul Ross.
The judges chose SafetyEYE because they appreciated its space-saving and safety credentials, and its enormous potential for a host of applications. One of the judges commented: "It makes a redefinition of the human-machine interaction possible."
Speaking afterwards, Ian Murgatroyd said: "SafetyEYE is the world's first safe camera system for three-dimensional zone monitoring, offering manufacturers the chance to transform the working environment. It can also save considerable amounts of money for system integrators and end users alike. Everyone at Pilz is extremely pleased that the judges recognised how innovative this product is. On behalf of Pilz Automation Technology, I would like to thank the judges and the award organisers, Purple Media Solutions."
This is the second award for SafetyEYE. In Germany the system won the Automation Award at the 2006 SPS/IPC/Drives show, plus it was one of five finalists for the Hermes Award at the 2007 Hannover Fair.
